Greetings! My name is Robert Mihaly (pronounced Mi-hay-lee in English). In the Carpathian Mountains from which my paternal family emigrated in the early 1900's, the surname Mihaly refers to the archangel Michael.
I delight in teaching visual art to students at Excelsior Classical Academy, two of whom are my children. My primary goal as a teacher is to ensure that every student is inspired to find a voice in art to uniquely express their ideas. It has been my experience while teaching primary and secondary students in traditional, Montessori and STEM schools that a treasure trove of joys is opened when young artists confidently embark on creative pursuits. These pursuits unlock vast resources of ideas, open-mindedness, and patience.
I've completed and installed various commissioned works throughout my life. Sculpture has been my main focus. I've done many large-scale marble sculptures with hammer and chisel. I've also employed cutting edge technological tools such as 3D scanning, 3D modeling, CNC machining, and 3D printing. Other media I engage with include architecture, painting, glass, and conceptual art.
When not teaching or spending time with family, I spend my time in the lovely woods atop Red Mountain (the property features the exact highest point on continent as far as one would travel East or South from it) in Rougemont working to restore my castle studio.
